DudhKunda trek is also one of the popular trekking destinations in Lower Solukhumbu district. This place is unexplor trekking area, now it is newly open for the tourist. Dudhkunda literally means the lake of milk. Yes of course if you are there at the lake you will see the lake similar to the milk. This is also a holy place for both Buddhists and Hindus. It is believe that if someone takes a dip in this lake, one will fulfill the wishes.
During the full moon night in August come lots of shamen and the pilgrims to this holy lake and celebrate almost a week long. This area is inhabits by the Sherpa, Rai, Tamang, Chettri and other mixed folks groups. Mostly in this area such as Ringmu, Taksindu, Junbesi, Thuptenchholing, Salung, and other surrounding areas are inhabits by the Sherpas. Dudhkunda trek is actually popular as the cultural and historical trek to lower parts of Solukhumbu, while the upper part is popular as Khumbu. Where the world’s tallest Mt. Everest welcoming to the tourist.
In the lower part of Solukhumbu, there is also one of the popular destinations for the tourist which is known as holy peak called Pikey peak. This peak is also known as the protector god or the clan of the lower part of Solukhumbu. One can take either this route to the holy lake Dudhkunda starting from Jiri, or drive to Phaplu from Kathmandu. From there start the trek to the destination. The trek duration will be different. It depends on your holidays. There are everywhere possibilities of lodges except the two camps below the holy lake. For those days one can bring there own tents and some dry foods. It is not necessary to bring foods from Kathmandu you can also buy it on the way.
