Upper Dolpo Rara lake trek takes you to the mid-western Dhaulagiri region of Nepal. The trek goes through to the rugged and remote Dolpo in Mugu district. The trekking covers journey through the green forest, craggy rocks, high passes, and tricky trails. You will also find passes through the area of the remote village towards the heavenly Rara Lake. Which is also the biggest lake in Nepal, the area is enclosed inside Rara National park. Which is a very small park only 106 square kilometers. Upper Dolpo is a restricted area so trekkers will require a special trekking permit to visit this place. Upper Dolpo Rara lake trek is also considered as a Great Himalayan trek in Nepal.
This region has a wide array of sights to behold from spectacular landscapes. Such as meadows, yak and mules caravans and Bon culture of people in the Dolpo region. The Rara national park and Shey Phoksundo Park is home to different species of wild animals of the Himalayan region mainly the snow leopards, different birds, flowers and plants. You will be able to come in contact with Shey gompa which is a 12th-century monastery in Dolpo with backdrops of mountains enclosed around its perimeter.
This place is truly nature’s delight and it is rich in minerals. You can see both Phoksundo and Rara lakes in this trek. You will be crossing high passes Nyingma Gyanzen La (5563 m), the Yala La (5414 m) and the Chyargo La (5150 m) and walk through Karnali river banks in Mugu and climbing up to Rara Lake. The best seasons are the months of March, April, May and in September, October and November.
