At the heart of this region stands the majestic Dhaulagiri mountain, the seventh highest peak in the world, towering at an elevation of 8,167 meters (26,795 feet).
Trekking in the Dhaulagiri region offers adventurers a thrilling and remote experience, as it is less frequented compared to other popular trekking destinations in Nepal. The trekking trails wind through rugged terrain, dense forests, picturesque valleys, and high mountain passes, providing stunning vistas of snow-capped peaks, including Dhaulagiri itself.
One of the most renowned trekking routes in the Dhaulagiri region is the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek. This challenging trek takes approximately two to three weeks to complete and circumnavigates the entire Dhaulagiri massif. Trekkers cross high passes like the French Pass (5,360 meters) and Dhampus Pass (5,200 meters), offering panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
Along the way, trekkers encounter remote villages inhabited by diverse ethnic groups such as Gurungs, Magars, and Thakalis, providing opportunities to experience local culture and hospitality. The trek also passes through the serene and scenic hidden valleys of the region, adding to its allure.
Due to its rugged terrain and high altitude, trekking in the Dhaulagiri region requires good physical fitness, proper acclimatization, and adequate preparation. However, the unparalleled beauty and wilderness experience make it a rewarding journey for adventure enthusiasts seeking an off-the-beaten-path trekking adventure in Nepal.
The high mountain passes with oak, juniper and rhododendron meet the eye. This trek is marked by the altitude of the trek and cold weather as we reach the Dhaulagiri circuits.
