Princess Asma of Qatar climbs Mt. Everest
Princess Asma Bint Thani Al-Thani of Qatar has become the first Arab woman to climb the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. The Qatar Olympic Committee tweeted on Sunday evening that it was happy to see the Qatari flag hoisted on the summit of Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,849 meters.
Princess Asma was the first Arab woman to successfully ascend the third highest mountain, Kanchenjunga, on the Nepal-India border. Princess Asma has successfully climbed Mt. Everest from both the north and the south.
Actress Diya Pun climbed Mt. Everest
Actress Diya Pun has climbed the highest peak of Everest on Friday morning. Diya reached the summit of Everest through Elite Expedition. A 20-member team including Nirmal and Diya climbed Mt. Everest at an altitude of 8,848.86 meters in the morning, said Liaison Officer Keshav Thapa. Four Sherpas from the team had summited on top without the help of oxygen.
Dolma Sherpa summited Mt. Everest
Dolma Lama Sherpa of Taksindu Horsing, Soludhudhkund Municipality-1, Solukhumbu has successfully climbed Mt. Everest. Dolma, who is part of the team of GHT International Everest Expedition, set foot on the summit of Everest on April 12 at 8.10 am. Dolma, secretary of the Monviso Nepal Foundation and a member of the working committee at the Sherpa Sewa Kendra in Kathmandu, as well as active in social service, also carried a banner emblazoned with the logo of the Monviso Nepal Foundation to the summit of Everest.
Airlines dissatisfied with CANN’s decision
The Airline Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) has talked about a notice issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) stating that domestic airlines would only be allowed to take off after analyzing en route weather as well as weather conditions around the destination airport. In a press release issued presently, the association stated that the Meteorological Forecasting Division is in charge of informing the public about weather conditions, and that it sends a meteorological aerodrome report (METAR) to Kathmandu and Bhairahawa airports every 30 minutes, and to eight other airports every hour. Every six hours, the division transmits a terminal area prediction to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and Bhairahawa Airport.
While the division delivers en route weather reports to international aircraft flying over 18,000 meters, similar reports are not sent to local flights, according to the association. The AOAN has requested that the CAAN work with the relevant entities to make en route weather reports available to all airports in the country in order to ensure safe flights to rural areas. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has already stated in a notification that due to a lack of human resources, it is unable to deliver fast weather updates as requested by CAAN. Similarly, the CAAN’s decision to require two pilots in one-engine helicopters is unrealistic, according to the team.
The team has asked for the decision to be revisited, taking into account the manufacturer’s design goals as well as aspects that are inconsistent with global practice. The CAAN issued a notification on Tuesday indicating that all helicopters should be operated by two pilots immediately. In the aftereffects of the fatal accident of Tara air flight 9N-AET on May 29, CAAN enacted several “tight rules” as a knee-jerk reaction. The flight’s 22 passengers were all dead. Their bodies have been sent to Kathmandu for an autopsy.
