Tibet because of its spectacular landscapes, is now known as a “Sangrila”. The capital of Tibet is called “Lhasa”, Lhasa tour once prohibited for foreigners. Lhasa is the most sacred city in Tibetan Buddhism. The city “Lhasa” is about 3670 m. high and is also famous for the “Potala Palace”, the actual residence of the Dalai Lama, the religious head of the Tibetans. Today the Dalai lama lives in exile in a Dharamshala “North India” with his followers. He also received the Nobel Peace Prize for his people. The Dalai Lama had to leave Lhasa and so he fled to India when the Chinese attacked Lhasa during the cultural revolution and annexed the country to China.
During the tour to Lhasa If you take a close look at the Potala palace, you will see that the palace has over a thousand rooms with thousands of sacred objects. So a lot of gold and precious stones. By profession, many people in Tibet are farmers or nomads. They speak Tibetan and sometimes Chinese. You can see here that the houses and the settlement are very different from those in Kathmandu. The nomads live very differently than the normal Tibetans here, so they mostly live in the tent, are made of yak wool, goats and yaks are the usual pets of these nomads.
Tibet is strongly influenced by Buddhists. Buddhism was practiced in the 7th century as a major role among Tibetans. The view of the highest mountain in the world “Mt. Everest ”and other mountain giants look different from here. The 5000m high passes, villages, fields, yak herds, ruins and old forts, high mountains and the endless expanses make Tibet so attractive for visitors. This area has extremely dry air, strong sun and strong wind. It can get very cold even in winter. The heat can go up to 29 degrees.
Geographically, Tibet is as high as Nepal. Lhasa can be reached in an hour’s flight from Kathmandu. On an overland trip to Lhasa, it becomes even more adventurous in the sense that you can see many Buddhist monasteries such as Tashilhunpo, seat of the Panchen Lamas, can see.
