Kanchenjunga (8586m) is the world’s third tallest mountain that lies between Nepal and India border. The Kanchenjunga National park is protected area where Mt. Kanchenjunga with its five distinct peaks cover majority of land under the protected area system of Kanchenjunga region. The trekkers will be trekking through the park and be able to witness the wildlife with different species of birds and animals on the land of Sherpa and Limbu ethnicities.
Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek begins with a mountain flight into Taplejung district. Then it moves towards Chirwa, Amilasa, Ghunsa Khambachen and Pangpema following the remote off beaten tracks. Trekking to the base camp of Mt. Kanchenjunga is a diverse and an isolated trekking journey. The alpine meadows at higher altitude in a sparse basin of land are simply monumental while trekking at Kanchenjunga mountain region. Mt Kanchenjunga, Mt. Jannu, Mt. Yalung Kang, Mt. Pang Pema are tall mountains that hovers the eyesight resembling tall snow icicles above the moraine of Kanchenjunga glacier.
The wide array of mountain peaks from the snowy plain of base camp is a heavenly experience with blue sky stretching above and right below the pinnacles of Kanchenjunga mountain range. The best time of this trek are months of Spring season (March to May) and Autumn( September to November).
Today is your first day in Nepal. Welcome to the land of Mountains. Today you will be received and pick up from airport and stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
We catch an early morning flight for 45 minutes from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur in the South East region of Nepal. Then we take a drive to Taplejung. Overnight at Taplejung.
We pass by houses at Mitlung and climb over a bluff and down to busy Sinwa with views of Tamor valley below. Overnight at Sinwa.
We continue to walk on the base of a thatched village and cross a few bridges and walk steeply up and down and cross Tamor river on a swing bridge and come to Taplethok. Overnight at Taplethok.
We walk over flagstones to tea shops and steep climb to Lelep and head down and cross Tamor river. We arrive at Sekathum and then to Ghunsa Khola and climb up the metal swing bridge passing by bluff and over several ridges to arrive at Amjilowa. Overnight at lodge in Amjilowa.
Climbing over a bluff and descending towards rockfalls in bamboo we can see waterfalls and animals like red pandas.Then we cross another bridge and waterfall and climb up to gully and arrive at Gyabla. Overnight at Gyabla lodge.
Down to the river and sandy beach we climb up to the terrace of yak pastures. Then we move on to rhododendron filled Phale village. We come to another suspension bridge of Nango La and reach Olangchung Gola village. We pass by Tashi Choding Gumba and cross a bridge to Ghunsa. Overnight at Ghunsa.
Today we explore around Ghunsa we can wander around village see the locals and take a short hike to Lapsan La. You can also spend a rest day in Khangpachen. Overnight at Ghunsa.
We cross a bridge alongside Ghunsa khola walk through larch, rhododendron, pine and cedar forest. Then cross an upcoming bridge and climb steeply to arrive at Jannu. Overnight at Jannu.
We pass by chortens and banks of icy rocky peaks and come to a gully and cross abridge to arrive at plain land of yak pastures at Lhonak and walk up to the Lhonak glacier. Overnight at Lhonak.
We walk on grassy terraces to come close to view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and the glacier of snowy mountain peaks. There is only a hut at Pang Pema. Overnight at Lhonak.
We walk steps down valley to Khangpachen and then move towards Ghunsa. Overnight at Ghunsa.
We climb past the hydroelectricity station below Ghunsa cross Yamatori khola and move to Nangpa La and it then heads towards Olangchung Gola . Then taking short steep climb to Sele La and rock fall arrive at Selele camp. Overnight at Selele.
We climb up the valley over some rocky boulders and ascend up to Mirgin La Then we traverse watersheds on a fallen rock and climb Misisay La pass and drop to Anda Pokhari and left down and steep climb to Sele La. From there heading down and passing by the lake we arrive at Cheram. Overnight at Cheram.
We cross a large loose gully and climb up yak pasture in Yalung. Then moving down the lakes and moraines we cross frozen seeps and streams. Then come to hidden stone lodge of Ramchour. Overnight at Ramchour.
We climb up to cairn at high moraine walls with view of Yalung glacier. From Khardung we take an hour walk back to Ramchaur. Then we enjoy going to Cheram. Overnight at Cheram.
We walk down to Simbuwakhola and another forty minutes to Anda Pokhari and Yak Kharka to Tortong. We cross Simbuwakhola on a bridge and forest uphills to yak pasture and drop to Lassi Bhanjyang till we reach Amji Khola. From there we cross the bridge and climb over Dhupi bhanjyang and drop to Yamphudin below the Kabeli Khola. Overnight at Yamphudin
We descend crossing Omjhe Khola and ascend to jungle of cardamom plants and pass through thatched roof houses of some villages and ascend to Khebang danda. and to Anpan. Overnight at Anpan.
From Anpan we hike to Tembewa and then move to Taplejung. Overnight at Taplejung hotel.
After breakfast we go to the airport and fly Biratnagar and a connecting flight to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu
We enjoy the rest day at Kathmandu. You can go to shops for buying souvenirs. In the evening farewell dinner. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu
Your Kanchenjunga base camp trek has ended. We will drop you down to airport thirty minutes before scheduled flight back home. Have a nice journey and visit again.
