Everest region

To the Everest region anyone who wants to take a closer look at Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world at 8848n, will be pleased with the good trekking infrastructure of the Solukhumbu area. The friendly sherpa living here, formerly synonymous with porters, are now doing well as guides and “mountain hotels”, and meanwhile a network of good lodges has spanned large parts of the Khumbu.

Most trekkers visiting Everest region fly from Kathmandu to Lukla with a twin otter or propeller plane. This 30-minute flight is unforgettable, the views of the majestic ice peaks and the deeply carved valleys with the many small villages in a sea of rice terraces are unique. The tension increases when the pilot takes a dive into the dudh kosi valley for a landing approach.

Bus trips to Jiri and the subsequent hike to Lukla are time-consuming. the journey from kathmandu by bus is an experience and usually more exhausting than trekking. the attraction of the 6-7 day hike from jiri to lukla lies in the varied low mountain range. Countless ascents and descents take you up into the rhododendron mountain forest and down to the fascinating cultural landscapes of the Tamang, Rai and Chetri populations.
