Makalu is one of the highest mountains above 8000 meters beside Mt.Everest and Mt. Kanchenjunga. The Mountain region is enclosed by Makalu Barun national park. The base camp of Mt. Makalu is awesome and adventurous. Many tourists come yearly for the expedition in the Khumbu Mountains.
The scenes in the mountains unfold into alpine and tropical forests, the biodiverse and rich vistas of Arun valley, Khumbu icefall. The park is an homage to different species of animals, however, some of them are endangered and only found in the habitats of this region. Such as red panda, lynx, macaque, snow leopards, etc. along with 315 different kinds of a butterfly, 3000 plant species, 440 varieties of birds, reptiles, and amphibians along with medicinal plants and herbs. Rhododendron-covered forest iconic national flower that blooms to exuberance to be gazed at by the travelers and passers-by.
The lower belt is the dwelling of the Rai and Sherpa people. Although they were the first to climb and conquer Mt. Everest along with Sir Edmund Hillary. Shipton La pass is one of the prominent passes to the Makalu Mountain. So that travelers can stumble to different historic places and landmarks, such as Khongma, Tashi gaon, Siduwa, and Num valley, Manebhanjyang to keep them engaged to beautiful landscapes, riverbanks, and gorges, villages to keep them close to traditional Nepal and its flourishing culture. The best seasons for this trek are between May-June and September-October.
The Makalu base camp trek starts at 850 meters and wraps around 5000 meters above sea level. The climbers are challenged by the high altitude so it is essential that they have a pre climbing and trekking experience and are in good physical condition for the Makalu base camp trek.
Today you have arrived to Kathmandu airport. Welcome, our representative officer is there to usher you to our hotel room with bag and baggage hope you have a wonderful stay in Nepal.
This is your second day. Today you will be accompanied by travelling guide who will familiarize you to historical landmarks (UNESCO heritage) sites like Swyambhunath, Hanumandhoka, Pashupatinath and Bouddhanath. In the evening we gather in hotel for brief orientation about rest of the tour. Evening dinner at Hotel.
Today you fly to Tumlingtar airport. Now the trek begins all the way to Khadbari in 45 minutes of hiking. You will come and camp above village. Overnight at Tumlingtar.
You pass by the bamboo and rhododendron forest trails to a gurung settlement called Chichela where we place our camp. Overnight at Chichela.
Today we walk the paths thatopens to mountain peaks that have been snow covered. We walk straight up and down to enter forest and descend down to Num camp. Overnight at Num.
We descend after leaving our camp at Num and down to rocky lands of Numbang and climb to Seduwa camp which is tough but rewarding one. Overnight at Seduwa.
We cross meadows and streams to arrive at Tashigaon which is a famous Sherpa village. Overnight at Tashigaon
We climb through thinly populated village along the ridge and hilllocks.We descend o Kauma and stay overnight at tented camp.
We walk on challenging trails and enter Thulo Pokhari and continue to Keke La and enter to rhododendron filled forest before we reach Dobato. Overnight at Dobato in a lodge.
From Dobato we come to Mumbuk and follow slopes to Barun valley to reach Yangle Kharka. We spend overnight at Yangle Kharka in a guesthouse.
We pass by small huts and patches of rocky terrains and climb up to Langmale Kharka.Overnight at Langmale Kharka.
Following through trails of Barun Khola and moraine filled with glacier of Makalu Mountain around the base camp. We spend overnight at tea house.
Now after exploring and staying overnight at Makalu base camp we leave the next morning and retrace back to Barun valley to campsite of Yangle Kharka.
From Yangle Kharka we retrace back to Kauma and stay overnight at our tented camp.
Today we leave Kauma and trek downhills with poles and come to shops for tea and catch a flight to Kathmandu and back to our hotel from where we have started.
Today after breakfast and few hours before the scheduled flight we will drop you with your luggage to airport to return back home. Hope you had wonderful stay and pleasant memories of Makalu base camp trek in Nepal.
